Pascal
Desroches is the fourth generation to make wine in Reuilly; his
great-grandfather establishing a vineyard in 1894. Pascal himself began in
1988 with 2.5 hectares which he vinified at the old cellar located at his
parents bar cum village store in Lazenay where the family had a ready made
market for the wine. In 1993 he signed up to become a founder member of
the Chai de Reuilly, where he has been ever since.
There are now 10 hectares of vines (although Desroches is also a céréalier with ten times the amount of arable land), with parcels
split between the three lieux-dits
of Les Lignis, Les Ferrières and Les Coignons. Sauvignon accounts for
half of the plantings, whilst Pinot Noir accounts for a further three
hectares and Pinot Gris the other two. Of the three wines produced, the
Pinot Gris tends to receive the most recognition with a regular entry in
the Guide Hachette, although on the evidence of the 2009 wines (tasted
at the Chai de Reuilly in June 2010) the wines are competent rather than
exciting.
