Patrick
Baudouin (2008)
For
anyone who loves the wines of the Coteaux du Layon, Patrick Baudouin will
be a familiar name. He owns vines in three separate communes here, but the
2008 vintage sees a departure into Savennières. The wine comes from three
separate parcels of 25 year old vines which are certified organic. The
wine is raised in second and third fill barrels.
2009
Savennières
Integrated oak. Honest and authentic with linear acidity. Very good focus
and length. Taut, yet approachable. Well made but would benefit with some
time. Very crisp and mineral finish. Shows potential. (02/11)
2008
'La Vannières'
Light, soft and creamy nose. Proper and representative of the appellation.
Clean, but still pretty restrained. High toned on entry with some volatile
acidity showing. The flavour profile is of baked apples. Lively acidity to
the finish although the oak still needs time to meld into the wine. Taut
and juicy and in need of time. (02/10)
