Clair
The label declares Depuis
1536 – Fondé en 1896’. The family Clair belongs to an extended
line of vignerons that branched
out at the end of the 19th Century to produce sparkling wines
produced by Méthode Traditionelle
and built four vaulted cellars on the outskirts of Renaison to accommodate
their production. They also make Côte Roannaise appellation wines too.
The last incumbent, Jean-Baptiste Clair, is the great-grandson of the
founder. When he retired in 2004, he handed the operation to his daughter
and son-in-law, Guido D’Antonio who studied at the University of Bologne
and met Jean-Baptiste’s daughter, Claudine, whilst in Holland.
